There exists a place in the city where you can receive a sword from Superstar Rajinikanth or a rose from Nayanthara and even get an Oscar trophy from none other than Ulaganaygan Kamal Haasan.

After the overwhelming response to the first 3D art gallery in the country, opened at the VGP Snow Kingdom on ECR earlier this year, a new click art museum has come up at the Mayajaal complex, which the makers call world’s first 3D cinema art museum.

“Chennai loves its cinema and the stars. As far as we know, there is no other 3D art museum just dedicated to cinema stars,” says 26-year-old Ponnalkeppan B, who set this space up at Mayajaal along with artist A P Sreethar.

“I was closely watching the popularity of the interactive art at VGP where people enjoyed posing along with the 3D art. The concept, which is extremely popular abroad, became an instant hit in Chennai too, thanks to social media,” says Ponnalkeppan, a digital marketing profession.

Being a social media specialist, Ponnalkeppan wanted to catch people’s imagination with an innovative idea. “Everyone knows that people love cinema here. We have seen so many people posing along with the cut outs of their cinema stars at the Marina beach. So, we thought why not create a space where people get to interact with the paintings of their favourite stars. In collaboration with artist A P Sreethar, the brain behind bringing the 3D art to Chennai, we conceptualised the museum. It cost us around Rs 35 lakh to create the space. Though it has been only a few days since we launched the museum, the response has been great,” says Ponnalkeppan.

There are around 12 paintings including that of Bollywood actor Deepika Padukode, Vijay and Vadivel and each one has a unique touch to it. “I’m planning to take this form of art to all parts of the world.”
