Ingredients :

(240 ml cup used)

2 cups thick beaten rice or poha or avalakki

1cup moong dal (you can reduce to ¾ cup too)

1 inch ginger

1 tsp black pepper

2 tsp cumin seeds

½ tsp. turmeric

Few cashew nuts

Curry leaves

Coriander leaves

Instructions :

Pressure cook the moong dal with salt to taste. I cooked the moong dal in microwave so as to not overcook it.

Soak the beaten rice for some time to soften. Drain the water completely and set aside.

Sauté cumin seeds,pepper,curry leaves and cashews in a pan. Add ginger and turmeric to it. Add both beaten rice and moong dal and mix thoroughly. Check on salt. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Notes :

you can make a mushy pongal too by adding more water to the pan and cooking further.
